The Turku Foundation of Business Education annually awards travel grants for travel related to research work and postgraduate studies in the commercial field. Travel grants are available for application by researchers, postgraduate students, and educators conducting research and educational activities in the commercial sector at Turku-based educational institutions. The trip must be completed within 12 months of the grant decision.
The travel grant is applied for in the Foundation's electronic grant system during the application period.
The maximum travel grant amount is € 5,000. Applicants may apply for a travel grant for one trip during each application round. If the same applicant submits multiple applications in the same round, only the first application received will be considered. Applications will not be processed if a report for a previously awarded travel or research grant from the Turku Foundation of Business Education has not been submitted by the deadline.
Travel grants can be awarded for attending conferences, conducting research visits, material collection, or pursuing further studies. Funds can be granted for expenses directly related to travel costs, such as entry fees, travel tickets, and accommodation. The Foundation does not cover other expenses (meals, daily allowances, poster printing, ESTA, visa acquisition costs etc.). Grants are not awarded for trips already initiated or completed. Travel grants are intended for travel and visit expenses and are therefore not covered by the statutory pension scheme.
When applying for a travel grant for conference trips, ensure the following documents are included:
- Conference invitation and program
- Presentation abstract
- Abstract Acceptance Notice
- A description of the purpose of the trip
- Trip budget and cost breakdown
- Information on other grants and funding applied or received for the same purpose
- Curriculum vitae including publication list
- For doctoral researchers, also a letter of recommendation from the supervisor (is delivered through the grant system within seven days of the application deadline).
When applying for a travel grant for research, postgraduate studies, or material collection, the following documents must be included:
- Itinerary, work plan or course programme
- Time of the trip
- Explanation of how the trip supports your research
- Trip budget and cost breakdown
- Consent from the receiving institution
- Information on other grants and funding applied or received for the same purpose
- Curriculum vitae including publication list
- For doctoral researchers, also a letter of recommendation from the supervisor (is delivered through the grant system within seven days of the application deadline).
Grant recipients will be notified personally of the grant awarded. The grant recipients will be listed on the Foundation's website. The recipient of the grant must submit a payment application through the electronic grant system by the end of the year in which the grant was awarded. The grant is paid topaid to the grantee’s Finnish bank account in a single transaction.
The funding must be used in accordance with the stated purpose at the time applied for. The grant recipient must submit a written report on the use of the grant and a concise travel report within two months of the completion of the trip. The report is submitted in the electronic grant system. The grant recipient must commit to return the grant if the trip is not completed as indicated in the application.
The recipient of a travel grant may, for a well-founded reason, apply for a change in the time or destination of the use of the travel grant with a free-form application addressed to the representative of the Foundation. However, the trip must be completed within 12 months of the grant decision. The purpose of use cannot be changed.
